Presentation
The mission of the Sport and Social Sciences (Sport et sciences sociales – E3S) research unit (UR 1342) at the University of Strasbourg is to provide training in research, develop scientific programmes and publish scientific works on sport and physical activities in the fields of sociology, anthropology, history, management sciences, education sciences and psychology. It focuses on the relationship between objective aspects, linked to the careers and development of players and organisations, and subjective elements, relating to the experiences of individuals at different periods and in different situations.
The research unit focuses on the actors involved in the social and cultural transformations of sport across three main topics:
- Physical activities, sport, education and global health
- Knowledge, territories and political uses of sport
- Wellbeing, work, employability, market
All our research is based on first-hand empirical data, produced from ad hoc, in situ studies. In addition, it seeks to vary the scales of observation and analysis both spatially, from local to transnational, and temporally through synchronous and diachronic approaches.
Research topics
Physical activities, sport, education and global health (APSES)
Studying the actors involved in educational, socio-educational and medical programmes using sport and physical activities in different historical periods.
Knowledge, territories and political uses of sports (STUPS)
Analysing the political and non-governmental actors in the field of sport at different territorial levels: local, national and European, focusing on cultural circulations and transfers.
Wellbeing, work, employability, market (BETEM)
- Studying the corporate players and initiatives in the field of sport and well-being
- Studying employability according to training and career paths, and of professional knowledge in situation from an interdisciplinary perspective in human and social sciences
